Kai Schütte joined Phyton Biotech in 1995 shortly after the acquisition of the plant cell culture facility in Ahrensburg, Germany. As Managing Director he is in charge of all aspects of contract manufacturing and development activities of the company. During his long term engagement Kai held several positions with responsibility for production, engineering and process development at the Ahrensburg cGMP production facility.
Kai has been involved in all phases of establishing, executing and improving the paclitaxel manufacturing process. He also led several engineering projects to upgrade and expand the production facilities.
Kai received his engineering degree in Biotechnology from the Technische Fachhochschule in Berlin, Germany and a business engineering degree from the Hamburger Fern-Hochschule in Hamburg, Germany.
Gilbert Gorr, Ph.D.
Chief Scientific Officer
Gilbert leads business development as well as technical, project, and customer management related to Phyton’s PCF® technology. Gilbert also provides technical leadership in related patent prosecution, which has resulted in more than 100 granted patents since he joined Phyton in 2009.
During his career in the biotechnology industry, Gilbert has served as scientific head in several small and medium-sized companies. Gilbert is the inventor of 10 patent families comprising glyco-engineering including antibody optimization, expression technologies, and molecular tools, with more than 200 granted patents.
Gilbert received his Ph.D. in natural sciences at Hamburg University. He was also a Post Doctoral Fellow at the School of Veterinary Medicine in Hannover where he worked in the area of pharmaceutical development.
Michael von Gönner, Ph.D.
Head of Quality Management
Michael is accountable for all GMP operations for Phyton’s PCF® facility in Ahrensburg.
Prior to joining Phyton in 2000, Michael was leader of the GMP Assurance Group of Aventis Behring (now ZLB Behring) where he was in charge of QA for six plants involved in blood plasma fractionation. He also worked as Quality Assurance Manager at R.P. Scherer where he managed all aspects of quality assurance including several US FDA inspections.
Michael received his Ph.D. in Phytopathology and Applied Entomology at Justus Liebig University of Giessen.
Michael Woudenberg, P.Eng
Michael has P/L and operational responsibility for Phyton Biotech, LLC. He first joined Phyton in 2010, and in 2014 he became responsible for leading Phyton’s Development Services group.
Throughout his career, Michael has established a successful track record for the development, scale up, technology transfer, and commercial establishment of drug products and API’s in both technical and senior management roles.
Michael has a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and a Bachelor of Engineering Science, Chemical from the University of Western Ontario.
Senior Director, Quality and Regulatory Affairs
Tim is accountable for the GMP operations and regulatory functions at Phyton.
Prior to joining the company in 2009, Tim was the Director of Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs at Natural Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Over the past 18 years, he has held a variety of positions in quality control, quality assurance, and validation in the pharmaceutical industry.
Tim is a Chemist by training and received his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of British Columbia.
