Marc Iacobucci
General Manager, Phyton Biotech, LLC
As General Manager of Phyton Biotech, LLC, Marc has leadership responsibility for the company, which manufactures, supplies, and develops pharmaceutical API’s used in the treatment of cancer. Phyton is a DFB Pharmaceuticals affiliate; and Marc has been with the DFB family of companies since 1993. Within DFB, Marc was most recently Vice President of Marketing and Project Management for DPT Laboratories, a contract pharmaceutical development & manufacturing company. He has also worked in many different roles for the organization from account management in his early days at DPT, to new business development for parent, DFB, to Vice President of Marketing for Healthpoint, another DFB affiliate focused on chronic wound care. He also worked for Procter & Gamble as a pharmaceutical market analyst, Merck as a sales representative, and the Texas State Poison Center as a clinical pharmacist early in his career. A graduate of the Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Clinical Pharmacy, Marc received his Master of Business Administration from the University of Texas at Austin.

Roland R. Franke, Ph.D.
Chief Technology Officer

Dr. Roland Franke is Chief Technology Officer of Phyton Biotech, LLC. Prior to this Dr. Franke was a Founder, Director and Chief Executive Officer of Natural Pharmaceuticals, Inc (NPI), since 1998. Previous to this Dr. Franke spent three years as an Associate in the pharmaceutical consulting practice at Booz Allen & Hamilton in New York. There he worked on R&D strategies and mergers and acquisitions. Dr. Franke was also heavily involved in strategic marketing and long term planning at Booz Allen & Hamilton.

In 1994 Dr. Franke was awarded the Kaufman Award for Entrepreneurship, which led to his position as the Business Development Advisor at GelSciences, a high technology spin-off from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The research focus of GelSciences was based on responsive hydrogels for medical purposes such as drug delivery, wound dressings, and other areas. Dr. Franke was involved in business-to-business marketing of drug delivery technology, product development, and planning for manufacturing.

Prior to his work at GelSciences, Dr. Franke was the Group Leader of a Multi-Client Study at BioInformation Associates. Dr. Franke’s one-year multi-client study included more than 40 biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies. The findings of the study were presented to the top management of several participating companies, leading to a follow-up assignment with a medium size pharmaceutical company that focuses on technology platform assessment, survey of the competitive environment, and implementation strategy for new technologies.

Dr. Franke received a M.S./MBA from the Sloan School of Management, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1995, a Ph.D. in Chemistry with Prof. Khorana, from the Department of Chemistry, MIT in 1990, a M.S. in Chemistry, University of Freiburg, Freiburg, Germany, 1986 and a B.S. in Chemistry also from Freiburg in 1982.

Douglas J. Leaffer
Director of Sales & Marketing
Douglas J. Leaffer is Director of Sales and Marketing with Phyton Biotech, LLC. Prior to joining Phyton, he held positions as Director of Sales and Marketing with Natural Pharmaceuticals, Inc (NPI), Director of Sales with Labcon, North America, and as Product Marketing Manager with the Rainin Instrument, LLC division of Mettler-Toledo. Both Labcon and Rainin are manufacturers of biomedical plastics for the medical device industry. Mr. Leaffer received his M.S. in engineering from Tufts University in Boston, and his B.S. from the University of Miami, Florida. Prior to his sales and marketing roles in the life science field, he had a ten year career as an environmental consultant, focusing on the assessment and remediation of bio-contaminants in the environment.
